ABOUT ME
I am not a professional photographer, but an amateur and I enjoy it. I do have books on photography and also get tips from the internet. It is great getting away from the suburbs and big cities. Traveling up north and into the Upper Peninsular takes me into an environment that has been untouched by time. Waterfalls are plentiful in the Upper Peninsular along with great landscapes and Lighthouses. Woods of towering White Pines, along with verities of Birch, Spruce, Maple, Hickory, Ash, and Oak. Along the coastline of Lake Huron are pristine beaches. Wildlife is abundant throughout the state. There are still a lot of places that I haven't traveled to, and I'm looking forward to seeing them in the future.
On my last trip up north in fall of 2008, we saw the only known waterfall in the Lower Peninsula, the Ocqueoc Falls, which is near Onaway. As it is the only known waterfall in the Lower Peninsula, it was worth seeing. On our way to Cheboygan, we drove through the Mackinaw Forest and it was a very pleasant drive. There were a few scenic turn offs that were outstanding. The Cheboygan Crib Light, near Lake Huron and the Cheboygan River was one of the highlights of the trip. Also the Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse is magnificent and well preserved. Mackinac Island is a great place to visit and there is a lot to do on the Island. There are natural rock formations and along Lake Shore Boulevard is the famous Arch Rock. On the Island we traveled by bicycles that we rented. It was an enjoyable trip.
Even though I use good guides, I do get lost sometimes and have to ask for directions. Sometimes there is no street sign to mark a road, but most local residents don't mind giving directions and are very helpful. Road construction with detours can cost you time if you are planning on seeing a number of attractions in one day. That is why I always give myself extra time, just in case.
The digital cameras that I use, are as follows: Canon EOS Rebel XT D-SLR, Fuji S700, and an Olympus SP-310. I use a Canon 28-105 wide angle lens, 18-55 wide angle lens, and a 100-300 telephoto lens. I use filters, ultra violet, neutral density and polarizer. I have two tripods that I use, one is lightweight and the other is heavy duty. When I hike I use an Canon backpack which works well and keeps my hands almost completely free, except for my tripod.
